Ingrid Schmidt BFA

Ingrid received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Queen's University and her fine Arts Diploma from St. Lawrence College in Kingston.
Ingrid paints mainly in oils, acrylic and watercolour in a fresh expressionistic style. The mighty St .Lawrence river and the rugged landscape offer constant inspiration. Her large landscapes are distinguished by strong composition, the use of bold colours and gestural brush marks. In her floral paintings she is more interested in capturing the essence of the flower than giving an exact rendering.

She is a founding member of the very successful artist run V.A.G.A. Art Gallery (Visual Artists of Gananoque and Area) in the Historic 1000 Island Village on the Gananoque waterfront. She is a participating member of the Thousand Island Art Spring Studio Tour, and an exhibiting member of the Thousand Islands Fine Art Association. Some of her work is at the Agnes Ethrington Art Rental Gallery at Queen’s University. She has group shows at the Brockville Art Center as well as the Kingston Library.

In 1990 “The Best Painting of the Show” Award at the Kingston Outdoor Exhibition was given to Ingrid by the Kingston Artist Association. In 1984, she received the Ontario Crafts Council Scholarship for outstanding contribution in ceramics at St. Lawrence College in Kingston.
